Getting Around
- Public transportation
- METRO: A & B Lines
- BUS (Atac)
- Car rental
- Consider if you really need a car: Rome is walkable, and public transport is efficient. A car is more useful for countryside or coastal excursions. There is also a good car sharing system like “Enjoy” or “Share now”. You can also opt for a shared scooter rental with “E-Cooltra”!
- Insurance: If you rent a car, ensure you have a comprehensive insurance, including CDW (Collision Damage Waiver).
- Tolls: Highways (autostrade) outside of Rome often have toll booths. You can pay by cash, card, or Telepass (like a digital toll pass). Keep some euros handy just in case.
- Parking
- Driving in Rome: Traffic is chaotic, scooters weave in and out, and signage can be confusing. Also, many central zones are ZTL (limited traffic zones) - if you enter without a permit, you’ll get fined (even with a rental car).
- Parking: Parking in Rome is limited and expensive. Blue lines indicate paid parking, white is free and yellow is reserved. Pay at street machines or via parking apps
